NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

Well, I've spent plenty of time watching channel 50, 51 and 52 on Astro lately. Mainly cuz there were not many subscriptions left since i had left. I feel so enlightened.

I watched the science of Lance Armstrong. You know that famous cyclist and all They descried his background. He actually suffered from cancer in his early career as a cyclist. He survived. Lived on to be a legend. His training methods were also explained. Secret was, his muscles were special. It released less toxins during rigorous workout compared to others. Interesting eh~

Then there was the curse of the mummies. People died when they unearthed fresh tombs of egyptian mummies. The fact behind it all was that there were biological factors involved. Microorganisms which had been living in there for centuries were actually very harmful to our respiratory system. Oh well.

Then there was this show about the human eye. It explained how our eyes work and compared it with other animals. It's weakanesses and adventages were also exposed. However, each individual has different capabilities. An experiment with a baseball player showed that his eyes estimated where the ball was before he even swung the bat. After the show was on for an hour, they did an experiment on a group of people. These people were told that it was just a competition between the sexes. A video was played for them. 6 basketball players were seen on the video. 3 wearing black. 3 wearing yellow. Each team would then pass the ball among themselves. This group of ppl viewing the video was asked to count the number of times the ball was passed between the yellow players while ignoring the black ones. The 'competition' began. Midway, a man dressed as a gorilla appeared, beat his breast among the basketball players and walked off. After the show, they were asked if they saw anything weird while counting the passes. Only 4 out of the 20 people saw the gorrlia.

Well, of course i laughed at how dumb they were at missing such an obvious thing. To my horror, at the end of the show, they replayed parts of the episode and i realized that there had been 'gorrilas' throughout the show and i had missed it. For example, when they were showing the baseball player swinging his bat, the gorilla was standing in the background watching....and i had totally missed it cuz i was concentrating on the baseball player. Of cuz there were plenty more other shots where the gorilla was present and i had not seen it at all. It shows how limited our eyes are....

Then there was this show about disasters. A man blew up a truck at a building and the entire thing collapsed. The building was supposed to withstand winds of 160mph but it failed to withstand such a small explosion. Scientific facts started pouring in on how the structure of the building failed it and all.

There was also a reality show. A construction worker was made over. More or less like queer eye for a straight guy..but it's not. Anyways, in a month's time they had to make him a supermodel. They did photoshoots. Makeup. Clothes. and all the other stuff. After all that, he was brought to a world class fashion show in Milan. There were 3 other professional models. There were also 3 reknowned fashion experts. After the fashion show, the judges were told that one of the models were a fake. None guessed the correct one. So for those of you out there interested in modelling...no prob....

Tired. I think i'll continue with the other documentaries some other time :D Ciao~
